SAGE would like to extend our gratitude to all of the incredible nurses and healthcare workers as National Nurses Week comes to a close. Nurses play an integral role in the healthcare system and they continue to keep our communities safe during the pandemic. It’s important that we stand with nurses and call for the repeal of Bill 124. Take action by writing to your local MPP here: https://rnao.ca/policy/action-alerts/repeal-bill-124-premier
The 2021 SAGE Impact Report is now posted! It summarizes our accomplishments, volunteer projects with long-term care homes, media appearances and much more! Thank you to our volunteers, sponsors, and collaborators for your strong support and we hope you will continue to participate in our future endeavours! The full impact report can be viewed or downloaded here. Dollarama recently donated a gift card to us to buy books, art supplies, stuffed animals, and chocolate for the residents and staff at The O'Neill Centre in Toronto! We thank them for their generosity and their contributions towards improving the quality of life of seniors in long-term care homes!
The province announces new updates for long-term care home residents and looser visitor restrictions after a month of strict protocols to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.
Sinamys has been a volunteer with SAGE since July 2021 and is participating in our Companion Calls program. Every week, Sinamys has been contacting a senior who is a member of one of our partner organizations called Progress Place. During their weekly calls, Sinamys and her companion reminisce about their favourite memories and discuss their interests, including TV shows, sports, and music. Sinamys has met with her companion in-person and hopes to join a weekly senior program hosted by Progress Place in the future. Sinamys was inspired to join SAGE to reduce social isolation from the pandemic, particularly in seniors. She hopes to continue to support seniors and to advocate for their wellbeing through volunteering. Sinamys recently graduated from the University of Toronto, with an Honours Bachelor of Science in neuroscience and psychology. Sinamys has extensive volunteer experience, including as a research assistant, at Baycrest hospital, and at an Acupuncture clinic. It is clear that Sinamys is committed to improving the health of her community and we are grateful to have her on our volunteer team.
